How I Start Learning a New Piece

How do you take on the challenge of starting a new piece? Usually when my violin teacher gives me a new violin piece to learn, I almost always look it up to see what it sounds like and what the end goal will be. Whether it's an ABRSM piece I'm learning, or a new song in the Suzuki Method, this is the YouTube channel I go to first: CadenzaStringsNC. This channel is an amazing resource! Kevin Yen is a violinist and violist based in North Carolina who plays songs from each Suzuki book until book 8. For many songs, he plays through them at different speeds, or with accompaniments. He also plays ABRSM songs, so that students can hear what the song should sound like.

A song that I recently finished learning was the Bach Concerto for Two Violins, the Violin 1 part. On the CadenzaStringsNC channel, Mr. Kevin Yen has 3 separate videos for the speeds of this song: slow, medium, and regular tempo. In addition to these 3 videos, he has one of both violin parts playing the Bach Concerto.

There are so many resources online nowadays to aid student musicians in practicing and perfecting their pieces. Some of these may include tutorials, blogs or apps. What resources have you explored and how have they helped you develop your skills?
