Hi everyone!

In this article we will be exploring the United States' only national music honor society, Tri-M! Read on to learn what the society is, who can join, and how to establish your own chapter!

What is the Tri-M Honor Society?

The Tri-M Honor Society is a national organization with more than 2,100 chapters, reaching over 84,000 students. It is an honor society for student musicians around the country and gives students the opportunity to expand their musicianship through public service projects and special performances. Together, Tri-M musicians have contributed more than 750,000 service hours through volunteering for their local communities.

The Tri-M Honor Society also offers numerous scholarships for members, chapters, and individuals accomplished in music and community service. Learn more here.

Who is eligible?

Students grades 6-12 are eligible to join their own Tri-M chapter, or to start their own! Additional eligibility requirements include a 2.0 GPA or higher in core classes, and a GPA of 3.0 or better in music classes. Student members must also be enrolled in one music class per semester.

So, how do you start your own chapter?

As described on the Tri-M website, there are three simple steps to starting your own Tri-M chapter at your local middle or high school: Select an advisor for your club, complete a membership form and submit the activation fee, and receive the welcome packet with all the information you need to start your club!
